Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- IMTI, the Industrial Management & Training Institute at 233 Mill Street in Waterbury, CT (www.IMTIUSA.edu) has announced approval of their new Solar PV Apprentice Training Program by the State of Connecticut Department of Labor, The State of Connecticut Department of Higher Education and WIA. IMTI is one of the first institutions in Connecticut to offer a formal, certified program that qualifies course graduates the immediate ability to secure jobs in the solar PV industry.

IMTI Founder, Marcel Veronneau, stated, “Upon completion of the 15 week training program, our graduates will have secured all the school hours necessary for a State of Connecticut PV-2 Solar Electric License. No other school in Connecticut can offer a program that will teach students how to install, replace, repair and maintain solar photovoltaic systems, plus the storage and distribution of the energy created. Upon graduation, our solar PV students will be licensed to pursue careers as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installers. No other institution can offer that job-readiness.”

Marcel Veronneau founded IMTI, The Industrial Management & Training Institute, in 1986 in its current location at 233 Mill Street in Waterbury. With a satellite technical school in the Con Edison Training Center in Long Island City in Queens, New York, IMTI successfully trains electricians, plumbers, electronic systems and HVAC technicians in current technologies and job skills. All IMTI programs are career-oriented with classroom curriculums plus hands-on industry skills training. All classes are limited to 20 students for optimal one-on-one training.

“Solar power is growing,” stated Veronneau. “The possibilities for careers in solar installation and maintenance are now. Solar is expected to substantially ease our nation’s dependence on the use of fossil fuels. As the use of solar power increase, the costs of purchasing and installing solar PV panels for residential homes will continue to decrease. Our nation’s need for certified solar PV installers is increasing every week and is projected to grow as the demand for solar installations continues to grow.”

Studies by the Energy Information Administration indicate that domestic shipments of solar panels have increased by nearly 2,400 percent since 2000. The U.S. Department of Labor expects the solar photovoltaic workforce to grow by 50% in the coming years.

IMTI’s solar PV training program covers a broad range of information that includes system components, design considerations, site analysis, system installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.  The program will give IMTI students insights into the basics of electrical theory and safety, and will include a 10-hour training program under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on construction personal protection equipment (PPE). Graduates of the 15-week training program will receive an OSHA Quick Card for completing the construction safety program on eye, face, foot, hand, head and hearing protection safety techniques.

Janice V. Shannon, IMTI President, stated, “Our program is designed to provide students not only with all the related instruction required by the State of Connecticut, but also the requisite knowledge to obtain the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Installer Certification.”

Classes for the solar PV apprentice training program are expected to begin in April 2012. The size of each class is 20 or smaller to ensure attentive training is provided to each student.  To learn more, call IMTI at 203-753-7910 for details, or visit their website, www.imti.edu.
