Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Users of mobility scooters in Gloucestershire will now benefit from easy access kerbs, thanks to an initiative spearheaded by local schoolchildren.

Dropped kerbs have been installed in Matson following the work of school pupils at Robinswood Primary School, who pointed out that the town’s kerbs were an obstacle for local residents; particularly those driving mobility scooters.

Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways Department were told by the school’s Cool Kidz Crew that the area would benefit from dropped kerbs, as there were some 33 bungalows nearby. As a result the council acted and the dropped kerbs have been installed.

Mary Smith, a Gloucester city councillor described the work of wardens within the community as absolutely amazing.

"They have been talking to people, and people have been talking to them and they are really making a difference. They see things that perhaps others miss," she told the news provider.

"Having dropped kerbs there is going to make a real difference as a lot of residents along there use mobility scooters, or have walking sticks, so they will find it much easier."

It remains to be seen whether other areas will follow suit and introduce dropped kerbs for mobility scooters users. Could your area benefit from dropped kerbs? Do you believe that dropped kerbs are a good idea? Let us know below.
