Eldercare Author Seeks Funding Support Through Kickstarter.com

Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Kickstarter.com is a site that allows people to raise money for their projects. Projects are screened before someone is allowed to post and a lot of thought is put into each posting. The funds are run through Amazon.com and are only released if all of the requested funding amount is raised. Project directors offer rewards to those who contribute, ranging from souvenirs of the project to copies of it, such as books, films, jewelry, and more.
    Faye Levow, president of Launch Pad Publishing, sought out Kickstarter to raise funds for her upcoming book “OMG! My Parents Are Getting OLD!” to be the definitive resource to help families deal with the issues of caring for aging parents and to help Boomers and their children to be better prepared for their elder years. As a thank you reward, Levow says, “Most levels of contributor will receive a copy of the book because that’s what it’s all about: Getting this information into a million households as quickly as possible.”
    Unfortunately, most seniors are unprepared for their senior years, leaving family members struggling to figure out proper housing, financial issues, caregiving nuances, and more. Perhaps you have experienced the whirlwind and stress that can go along with the monumental task of caring for elder loved ones.
    Levow went through these struggles with her mother and felt compelled to share her learned information with others. “I realized that most of us go through this horrendous and tumultuous time with our parents. They need our help, but won’t admit it. They need to move to a more conducive environment, but they refuse. They are having difficulty managing their finances, but don’t want anyone else to know,” says Levow. “The worst part is that the adult children don’t know what to do or where to turn.”
    Levow says that there are so many moving parts with aging parents that it’s difficult to get needed information and direction. To help us find direction and badly needed information, “OMG! My Parents Are Getting OLD!” includes the lessons from over 70 family caregivers who have “been there” and chapters from over 50 professionals who work with seniors in a wide variety of fields. Woven throughout, is Levow’s personal, dramatic story of caregivers, theft, finances, and family gone awry during the last two years of her mother's life.
