Hope Luncheon Benefiting the National Psoriasis Foundation to Honor Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The National Psoriasis Foundation will honor Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz at the upcoming Hope Luncheon on Monday April 30, 2012 at the Tower Club in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  

This distinguished award is being given to Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz on behalf of her dedication and commitment to the psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis community in Florida and across the country.

We recognize Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz for her leadership and strong support for psoriasis research that has led, in part, to Congress appropriating $1.5 million in 2009 to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). These funds have been used over the past three years to create a psoriasis public health agenda, including analysis of prevalence and incidence of psoriasis.

There are as many as 7.5 million Americans who have psoriasis of which over 488,000 live in the state of Florida.  It is the most prevalent of all autoimmune diseases. People affected by psoriasis are at an elevated risk for cardiovascular disease, Crohn's disease, and other inflammatory diseases. People with psoriasis often face discrimination and embarrassment because others mistakenly fear the condition is contagious. Through events such as our Hope Luncheon we are building an understanding about the disease at the community level while raising funds to support research that will one day lead to a cure. The National Psoriasis Foundation is a charitable 501(c) (3) organization.
