Poll Shows Car Detailing Costs and Practices Nationwide

Applied Colors, the online purveyor of car detailing equipment and training, released the results of an investigative survey on Sunday. The survey's purpose was to determine patterns among car detailing businesses nationwide.

Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Applied Colors published the results of another survey on Sunday - this time, the survey was done in a clandestine manner, so as to get the most honest responses possible.

47 car detailing business owners across the U.S.A. were asked a series of questions, by email, by someone claiming to have a car needing detail work. The email, sent out by Applied Colors, contained images of the vehicle, a brief, generic description of the degree of  cleaning needed, and two questions: How much will it cost to detail my car? How long will it take to do the work?

The survey showed a huge range in bids from place to place as well as from detailer to detailer when location was the same. What this survey showed, ultimately, was that the definition of the service "car detailing" varied hugely.

More than half of the detail shops contacted by Applied Colors did not respond to the email they were sent.
