The Shayler Foundation To Host Art Exhibition and Lecture To Celebrate International Women’s Day

In March Belfast will welcome The Shayler Foundation. An event organised in collaboration with the Crescent Arts Centre and its Director, Keith Acheson.
 
Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- At the Centre, on the 24th of March from 2 pm to 6 pm, there will be talks, food and the screening of a short documentary on immigrant women living in Belfast.

Several speakers will talk about the condition of women in internationally. Maura Favretto will comment on the situation of women in Italy now, focusing on the portrayal of women in the media.

Kellie Turtle, a feminist and an activist with a background in the history of feminist activism in Northern Ireland, will talk about being a woman in Northern Ireland, with a focus on violence against women titled “The Future of Feminism: The Next Steps on the Path to Equality".

Ariel Killick’s talk, “Making the Global Local – Every little bit counts”, will focus on the importance of activism and taking action. She will be speaking about her work with iMeasc, a voluntary network of Irish speaking immigrants.

Dr. Maria Deaiana’s talk, "Celebrating International Women's Day: If Not Now, When?" will be a celebration of the feminist movement and its rebirth in the last years.

“I am organizing this art exhibit in an effort to raise needed funds for Uganda: Survivor’s Initiative’s Safe Birthing Project. The mission to help women in developing countries prevent avoidable medical complications during pregnancy, and aid with the delivery of a healthy baby goes a long way to set both mother and baby on a healthier path.
