Faye Levow, president of Launch Pad Publishing, has been through these struggles with her mom and by the time her mom passed away, Levow felt compelled to share her information with others. “I realized that most of us go through this horrendous and tumultuous time with our parents. They need our help, but won’t admit it. They need to move to a more conducive environment, but they refuse. They are having difficulty managing their finances, but don’t want anyone else to know,” says Levow. “The worst part is that the adult children don’t know what to do or where to turn.”
Levow says that there are so many moving parts with aging parents that it’s difficult to get needed information and direction. To help us find direction and badly needed information, she has created a book “OMG! My Parents Are Getting OLD!” It includes the lessons from over 70 family caregivers who have “been there” and chapters from over 50 professionals who work with seniors in just about every capacity you can imagine. Woven throughout, is Levow’s personal, dramatic story of caregivers, theft, finances, and family gone awry during the last two years of her mother's life.
“OMG! My Parents Are Getting OLD!” will be out later this year. In the meantime, Levow is raising funds for the project on Kickstarter.com. Kickstarter is a site that allows people to raise money for their projects. Projects are screened before someone is allowed to post and a lot of thought is put into each posting. The funds are run through Amazon.com and are only released if all of the requested funding amount is raised.
