Feb. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Barton & Loguidice, P.C., (B&L) has promoted Richard A. Straut, P.E., to Principal, Executive Vice President, and member of the Board of Directors. Straut manages the firm's Albany, Ellenville, and Newburgh offices.

Founded in 1961, B&L provides infrastructure engineering, planning, and environmental services for the public sector, as well as private and industrial sector clients. Straut was instrumental in the firm’s expanded presence in the Capital District more than 15 years ago, an expansion, he says, that was based on meeting client needs through strong relationships.

“B&L’s multi-discipline approach to consulting means that not only do our services support one another, but the firm is continually building on these services to offer clients the best possible in-house set of skills and solutions,” Straut said.  “An example is our asset management services, which the firm started offering a few years ago as a natural extension of our infrastructure engineering services.”

“In the current climate of funding constraints, clients are experiencing a need to better manage and optimize infrastructure asset repair/replacement needs while finding a way to streamline operations. Asset management is a tool to assist governments with the optimal selection, maintenance, operation, inspection, and renewal of assets to maintain a desired level of service at the lowest life cycle cost.”

Straut continued, “Smart growth legislation is leading communities to revisit sprawl and make better use of existing infrastructure near community centers.  Our planners are well versed in this legislation and all its implications, including how to get funding for projects. In addition, constantly changing regulations are pressuring communities to upgrade some or all of the system components in order to comply.  With a multi-disciplined approach, asset management can be applied to a wide net of infrastructure projects, and help communities grow “smart”.  Again, a natural fit for Barton & Loguidice.”

The firm does not typically work with developers, which Straut said is a big consideration in hiring the firm for the many municipalities it serves, including many in the Capital District and Hudson Valley.   B&L’s core services include water and wastewater engineering, asset management, solid waste management, transportation planning and engineering, facilities engineering, energy consulting, landscape planning, and site design.
