Thinking About Becoming a Wedding Planner?

Life affords us all a great wealth of experience and can highlight strengths and weaknesses. If you’ve ever organized your own wedding why not consider doing it for a living and become a wedding planner ? This article looks at how it’s done.

Feb. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Many factors go into organising a wedding. If you’ve organised your own you’ll know how many imaginary plates you will be juggling in the air to get the day right.

But did you know that increasingly in the UK people are turning to professional wedding planners to take the headache out of organising their big day.

Imagine that... someone else having to find wedding venues in Suffolk, for instance? Of course, there is their fee to take into account, but some people with the budget for it feel it is value for money.

The average cost of a wedding in the UK today is around £20,000, you only need to remember the riveting reality TV series “My Fat Gypsy Wedding” to realise that some brides don’t just want a wedding to remember but one that outdoes all the others they have attended no matter the cost.

If you think you need a little more confidence before selling your wedding-planner services, just a quick search on the net can reveal the online courses that will enable you to actually get a qualification in organising a wedding.

Of course, if you are looking for London, Norwich or Cambridge wedding venues you’ll find no end to meet either massive budgets or the smallest.

As a wedding planner firstly, you’ll need to get the brief right. If the bride specifically wants to only look at those Cambridge wedding venues that are within a short walk of the college they studied at when they were at university there, then you’d better make sure those you find meet the bill.

If their written wish list says, “Hotels Cambridge” and they specify that ONLY vegan food prepared by a chef who learned his trade in India will do, you’d better ensure you meet their criteria otherwise you risk Bridezilla baring her teeth and turning carnivore as she takes a piece out of you if you get the brief wrong.

Some of the main attributes for a successful wedding planner are confidence, excellent organisational skills and tact and diplomacy. Think of the divorced couples that might be part of the wedding party entourage! You can’t expect the mother of the bride, who’s at war with the father of the bride to spend too much time in close proximity with each other. You are going to engineer the day so they don’t have to cross paths too much.

A thick skin might help you, too, especially when you are asking a reluctant supplier to do a favour for the bride and groom. You may experience your fair share of last-minute wedding disasters, too. The last thing you want is the bride in tears, so having the ability to smooth out the hiccups along the way is a must.

You’ll also need to be creative, if the happy couple want a gothic, nautical or shocking pink theme, you’ll need to have the imagination to pull it off with a bit of style, plus an eye for detail and head for number crunching so that the budget doesn’t run away from you. Good luck.
