Philadelphia’s longstanding street food tradition has seen some changes over the past few years. Cheesesteaks, Hoagies, and soft pretzels are not the only foodie favorites roaming the streets—the city is now being complemented by an entourage of gourmet tastes from around the world. With the influx of new food trucks and carts, Philadelphian’s are in for a delicious treat as Roaming Hunger,  official food truck hub will be adding the city to its mapping system beginning February 21st, 2012. Now there is no need to sort through a confusing web of twitter feeds…locating your favorite mobile meal is just a click (or touch) away!

The Roaming Hunger website and smartphone app counterpart will be debuting a comprehensive map exclusively for the Philadelphia area that shows vendor locations (in real-time), a mobile alert system, and a food truck booking system. It’s not only fast, but it’s easy. Foodies are now able to sort meals by breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night time periods and browse their area with an interactive map to find their next meal on wheels. “Street food is an interesting concept—it is essentially gourmet fast food, and the simplicity of this concept is something we have integrated into Roaming Hunger,” says site founder Ross Resnick. “We are providing Philly with an easy way to identify which truck is most accessible to them at any given time. Our new system has been wildly successful in all the major food truck markets—Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, San Diego (to name a few). We have been monitoring Philadelphia’s street food pulse and it is showing incredible potential as a top market”. Philly is the 6th largest market in the U.S.

The city is just starting to sink their teeth into the street food movement. With over 45 mobile vendors, interesting and original trucks are beginning to pop up. If you’re looking for a truly authentic/ethnic gourmet bite, the ‘Mini Trini’ truck serves a purely Trinidadian menu. This truck truly demonstrates Philly’s diverse and eccentric culture.

Roaming Hunger intends on entering the market to help the food truck movement in Philly blossom. At no cost to vendors (and consumers), Roaming Hunger is providing a completely new and exciting food experience.

“This summer is a major step for the street food movement, and Philly will be a major player” says Resnick. “The demand is there and the excitement is apparent. Now it’s just time to eat.”
