Sterlite Copper sponsors Rs 2.7 lakh for drinking water project at Vadakkusilukkanpatti

Feb. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Thoothukudi : Sterlite Copper has sponsored Rs 2.7 lakh towards a drinking water project at Vadakkusilukkanpatti. Col.S.Krishnan handed over the confirmation letter on the sponsorship to Mr.Ashish Kumar, District Collector, Thoothukudi here on Friday at the Collectorate.

Sterlite decided to sponsor the project based on the request from the villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village. The cost for this project is Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs 2.7 lakh will be contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution.

The project will be implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self Sufficiency Scheme’. It will benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.

Sterlite Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running of evening study centre and rural health clinic.

Mrs.Maria Ponnammal, President, Vadakkusilukkanpatti and Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corpoorate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper were also present during the event.
