Feb. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Religion Meets Science Fiction In The New Novel Hanged For The Few

Author, James T. Carpenter, is pleased to announce his book, Hanged for the Few. This novel touches on the topics of religious intolerance, legalistic religions and the nature of God and salvation.

The theological science fiction nature of this writing allows liberal Christians and agnostics to explore the many questions they continue to seek the answers to.

In a world torn by war and kings and queens fight among themselves, religions and sects rule the people and their ways. Flandism is a particularly radical and rigid sect of the Monidist religion. King Merkvor, a power hungry king with a vendetta against Flandism, captures Billor, a former Flandit, and forces Billor and four other companions to find this sect's major city of Weslin with the intent on destroying it. Merkvor appoints Billor as the leader of a group in which each member has his or her strengths and different loyalties: Lorbon, an expert of the weapons of the past and one who desires to end all intolerance; Margona, the guide and a woman who seeks laws that are eternal and not earthly; Allon, a Miltar, the most rigid and radical sect of a religion that opposes Monidism and believes in spreading its ways through war if necessary; Helen, a fighter who is content to be silent and let the others have their way until their goal is threatened.

These five journey through lands torn by religious civil war, an empire ruled by priests of a cruel god, a town of philosopher kings, and a town in which the Dark One is worshipped. As they journey they meet their own spiritual fates and Billor discovers that Flandism holds still more surprises for him.

About The Author
James T. Carpenter was born and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa, a suburb of the city of Des Moines, the capital of Iowa. He excelled in school and was a member of the band. During his college years, he studied the Russian language and courses relating to the history of the Soviet Union and Russia. In attempting to find a career, he unsuccessfully tried teacher's education. In these studies, he spent a semester in Moscow studying the Russian language and learning more about the Russian people under Soviet rule. During these college years, he became involved with a conservative religious group on campus. Since he is a life-long Episcopalian with liberal leanings in his theology, James found the rigidity of belief and the conceptions of salvation difficult to deal with as well as the coercive nature of some of the adult leaders. These experiences served as inspiration for his work "Hanged for the Few." Following his years in college, he became employed with a regional property-casualty insurance company in the Des Moines area. Although insurance is his profession, he wrote novels in his spare time and traveled to other countries. In his travels, he has also participated in archaeological digs because history fascinates him. James continues to be an Episcopalian, serving on the governing boards of two different churches. Because of the challenge to hisfaith in college, he has read theology as well as a good portion of the Bible with a commentary.
