Feb. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- February 16, 2012; Schenectady, New York –Northeast Parent & Child Society has been awarded a $400,000 Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to implement Intensive Aftercare Prevention Program (IAPP) services in Rensselaer County. The program will provide intensive therapeutic support beginning May 1, 2012, to families in the North Central Troy and Hoosick Falls areas of Rensselaer County at risk of losing custody of their children.

Northeast will apply its award-winning IAPP model, currently utilized in eight counties, to compliment family services currently offered by Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region (CEO). “In addition to bringing needed funding and resources into Rensselaer County,” said Northeast Chief Executive Officer John Henley, “this interagency partnership enables us to provide vastly more efficient services, eliminate redundancies and effectively serve more families in need.”

The program, which will also include Parent Education and Consultation (PECP) and Family Group Decision Making (PECP) services, will target families referred by the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services at risk of having children placed into the foster care system. “Our highly effective IAPP model keeps families together and enables children to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment at a fraction of the cost of foster care placement,” said Henley.
