Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Help can often come from unexpected sources. Employees of Wyndham Jade in Plano, Texas, are stepping up to help the friend of a co-worker by participating in a bone marrow drive on Thursday, February 16, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the lobby of their building. Due to positive response, the drive has been opened to anyone wishing to participate.

The bone marrow drive was organized to benefit Erika Evans, a friend of Trecia Dilger, and others in need of bone marrow transplants. Dilger is Senior Registration Account Manager in Convention Housing and Registration for Wyndham Jade.

“Thank you everyone for such a huge response to want to help my friend, Erika Evans,” said Dilger, clearly moved by the response. “I can’t tell you how touched I am by you all, and how lucky I am to work with such amazing people!”

Wyndham Jade is located at 6100 W. Plano Parkway, Suite 3500, Plano, TX 75093. For more information on the drive, please contact Trecia Dilger at 972-349-5502 or tdilger@wyndhamjade.com. Anyone who would like to be tested but won’t be available during the bone marrow drive may also contact Dilger for information on how to receive a test kit by mail.

Participants will swab the inside of their cheek, and the sample will be tested as a match for Erika. Participants can also choose to have their test results forwarded to the National Bone Marrow Registry to be matched against anyone in need. Those who don’t meet the National Registry requirements due to age range and weight restrictions will be tested only as a match for Erika.

Bone marrow is donated in one of two ways. The Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PBSC) process, similar to donating blood, is used in 80% of cases. For the older bone marrow extraction method – used only for infant matches or when the PBSC method cannot be used on a recipient – donors are now given an anesthetic during the extraction process, alleviating the pain associated with this in the past.

Every match test incurs a $75 processing fee, and donations are being accepted to help cover the cost of the tests. Dilger emphasizes, “The important thing is to get swabbed, so ANY amount is appreciated to help with this.”

She continues, “I also want to say a VERY special thank you to Wyndham Jade, for offering to pay the processing costs of these tests for any Wyndham Jade employee who participates – that’s incredibly generous.”

“You all are so wonderful for caring enough about Erika to be willing to do this. We work for a great company that has such fabulous employees.  I consider myself very blessed.”
