THE INLAND MARINE UNDERWRITERS ASSOCIATION [IMUA] ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR 82ND ANNUAL MEETING

San Diego, CA’s Rancho Bernardo To Be Site For May 2012 Event


New York, NY, February 15, 2012 – This year’s 82nd Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) Annual Meeting is slated for San Diego, CA’s Rancho Bernardo Inn, May 6-9, 2012, and will feature a host of educational sessions most requested by the association’s membership.  

Kicking off this year’s meeting on Monday, May 7th, will be an overview of the P&C industry by Jerry Theodorou, Conning & Co’s Vice President Insurance Research & Publications.  Back by popular demand after delivering a lively and insightful look at the industry at last year’s IMUA Annual Meeting, Mr. Theodorou has indicated that this year’s keynote address will offer some thought provoking insights to what we can expect for both the near and long term.

Monday’s educational session also feature how to utilize predictive modeling in underwriting inland marine insurance.  This CAT Management session focuses on the benefits and shortcomings of utilizing analytics.  

Tuesday will explore various contractual terms regarding faulty workmanship and ensuing losses.  Immediately following will be an in depth discussion on high value/high hazard equipment including types and leading causes of accidents, standards & regulations and valuation methods.

The afternoon will explore the unique exposures and risks one of the world’s leading museums.  This session will include insight into loss prevention, transit issues, fine art losses and the complexity of art loss adjusting.   Linda Sommerville of the J. Paul Getty Museum will join Chris Marinello, Art Loss Registry, Simon Hornby, Crozier Fine Arts and Neil Lieberman, NLA Corporation for this insightful presentation.

The educational sessions conclude with an inside look into the present logistics environment in Mexico.  Mexican Cargo Transit continues to be one of the most requested topics from the IMUA membership and this year, IMUA brings Eric Talbot from the Department of Homeland Security, Border Security Division to give his insights into the current situation.  Joining him will be Barry Colon of FreightWatch.

Commenting on this year’s agenda, IMUA President & CEO, Kevin O’Brien, said, “We are extremely pleased with this year’s educational agenda.  Not only has our educational committee done an excellent job in fulfilling the requests of our membership, but they have found exceptional speakers to conduct these sessions.  This year promises to offer something for everyone with lots of key takeaways to help promote our members professional development.”
