Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Theater has recently launched a program for community theater and play readings of works by Sanibel playwrights. Upcoming play readings include Never Too Late March 11, and Carmen Garmin, Lady Godiva of Flamingo Landing and Homecoming for Sergeant Porter April 1. All play readings feature local talent both onstage and backstage. All play readings begin at 7:30 p.m. at BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Theater, 2200 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Cost is $12 Adult and $5 Child 17 & Under.
Never Too Late, written by Claudia Burns, centers around an unemployed construction worker living with his sister who starts a successful business. The play includes several inevitable conflicts and verbal skirmishes when romances also arise and complications multiply. Director June Koc and readers Deandre McGee as Ellie, Al Richmond as Ted, Jo Anna Bowers as Fran, Bill Schiller as Jimmy, and Ernestine McKay as the Narrator stage this romantic comedy.
Carmen Garmin, written by Marci Rudin and directed by Angie Koch, is about a driver who experiences his GPS voice coming to life, castigating him for his neglect of his former wife and young son, which leads him to change his ways.
Lady Godiva of Flamingo Landing, also by Rudin and directed by Koch, is about three couples on an Amtrak car train to Florida, and what transpires after a naked woman is discovered in a country club locker room.
Homecoming for Sergeant Porter, written by Wally Kain and directed by Edina Lessack, deals with a fraught encounter between an angry Iraq war veteran and the widow of a fallen Marine in the same war.
