When unlikely and suspicious events unfold to bring five people together to commit a very unusual crime, can it be blamed on pure chance? On coincidence?
When a powerful tsunami devastates the southernmost tip of Baja, California, a young Mexican girl is displaced and finds her life taking an entirely new course. A violent, repeat offender is unexpectedly paroled from the most unlikely of places, Death Row, and now tries to convince himself he is finally going straight. A beautiful, talented actress and her husband/agent find life is not all show business and glamour when someone’s life is on the line. And a kind, lovely woman of great wealth finds herself the unwitting pawn in someone else’s dangerous game, all taking place under her own roof.
Money, power, and greed are just the beginning. Elaine Hamill’s debut thriller will amaze readers with a plot that never stops twisting and turning with cunning stealth and wit. With each page, the stakes get higher, and so does the danger.
“Elaine Hamill’s ingenious debut thriller, The Deadly Prize, will entertain and astonish,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing. “This is the granddaddy of all surprise endings and confirms Hamill’s well-earned place on the shelves next to Sara Paretsky, Patricia Cornwell, and other modern mystery writers who push the limits with each book.”
Elaine Hamill is a former member of the Society of the Holy Child, a convent to which she belonged for twenty-three years. Previously a professional student with a transcript that appears something of a travel log, Hamill has since worked as a teacher on U.S. Navy bases, as a marriage counselor, and even a school principal. Now retired, when not writing, Hamill is an avid portrait painter who also enjoys furniture building and design, reading, telling jokes and other mischief.
