Follow on Google News | New local road race to help mend broken heartsEntrants of the Brooks Run Doncaster 10k are being asked to raise sponsorship for the British Heart Foundation’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
By: Louise Reilly Event organisers Metres to Miles have teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to raise funds for groundbreaking research that could begin to literally 'mend broken hearts' in as little as ten years time. At the moment, there's no cure for a broken heart. Once your heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, it can never fully recover. But there is hope - the heart of a Zebrafish can repair itself and research is already providing vital clues about how the human heart could be repaired. Derek Spence, Chair of the Bawtry and Doncaster branch of the British Heart Foundation said: “We are looking for anyone already planning to run the Doncaster 10k to use it as an opportunity to fundraise for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal and help us to save lives.” Julian Moorhouse, founder of Metres to Miles added: “We are delighted to be supporting this research and will be making information about the appeal available to runners as they register with us.” The 10k road race is the latest event to be added to the region’s racing calendar and will include a commercial challenge as well as a shorter community fun run alongside the main race on Sunday 13th May. Anyone interested in registering for the Brooks Run Doncaster 10k can do so online at www.metrestomiles.co.uk. Runners who have already registered for the race who would like to support the appeal can request information and sponsor forms from Metres to Miles.
