Premier Guitar Exceeds 20 million YouTube Views

Online growth increased 45 percent for multimedia network in 2011

Feb. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Premier Guitar, the pioneering multimedia outlet for more than a million guitarists worldwide each month, kicked off 2012 in monumental fashion by surpassing 20 million views on its YouTube channel in late January. This steady growth continues as the view count nears 20.3 million in early February.

“These numbers illustrate why guitarists the world over love Premier Guitar,” says Editor in Chief Shawn Hammond. “Besides being the first outlet to bring you video demos of the hottest new gear from NAMM, Musikmesse, and other trade shows, we go to extra effort to mic the gear with a studio-standard Shure SM57—the same mic that’s powered countless hit albums—so that viewers get a good idea what the guitars, amps, and pedals sound like in person. And our popular Rig Rundown videos don’t just give you up-close looks at the gear used by the most amazing players on the planet—they also bring you insightful information you can use to fine-tune your own rig, because our interviewers ask the types of questions you wish you could ask those artists yourself. We’re also about to up the ante again with a new series of thorough, fun-to-watch DIY videos with one of Nashville’s most trusted luthiers.”

With more than 76,000 digital subscribers, Premier Guitar saw its online growth skyrocket in 2011, with video views increasing 45 percent from 2010. This is largely the result of an integrated, forward-thinking multiplatform approach that includes a 200-plus-page print magazine, a website that serves up all PG print content and weekly web-exclusive stories (including features, reviews, and lessons) for free, a free monthly digital magazine, incredibly engaged social-media audiences (including on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr), and apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android users.

Of course, it’s also because Premier Guitar’s hands-on editorial approach is the most comprehensive and audience-centric in the industry, with more than 1,500 videos of Rig Rundowns—with guitar heroes like Joe Satriani, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Rush’s Alex Lifeson, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Brian Setzer, and John Mayer—as well as gear reviews, artist interviews and performances, lessons, and factory tours.

“PG’s editors are attracting a highly engaged multimedia audience from around the world,” says Premier Guitar Publisher Jon Levy.  “This video milestone is a great way to start the year and underscores our commitment to serving guitarists on any platform, any time.  PG’s new Apple newsstand app and growing mobile presence will build upon that trend in 2012.”
