I worked as a Guardian Ad Litem for 11 years in Seminole County Florida.  It was during this time a dream was planted in my heart.  Mike and I started an organization called The Forgotten Ones, Inc. and the primary goal of this ministry is to establish the Shiloh Ranch.

Shiloh will be a working ranch for individuals between the ages of 18-25 who have aged out of the foster care system, are homeless, or are being released from a juvenile correction facility.

The goal is to provide guidance into adulthood with real life skills though experimental living, spiritual guidance, responsibility and individual mentoring.

The Shiloh Ranch will include rescue animal and horticulture programs as well as other programs the community members are welcome to volunteer their time and talents cultivating hope in the lives of others.

"God’s gift to you is your life!  What you do with it is your gift to God!"

In Christ's Love,
Cindy and Mike Shadron

Foster and Homeless Children - Shiloh Ranch Program Overview

Shiloh Ranch is a ministry of The Forgotten Ones, Inc. a 501c3 non-profit organization.  We are a non-denominational Christian facility dedicated to serving individuals between the ages of 18 through 25 who:
[ul]
[li]age out of the foster care system[/li]
[li]formally in foster care but still in need of assistance[/li]
[li]youth released from a juvenile correctional facility[/li]
[li]youth on probation or parole[/li]
[li]homeless or runaway youth[/li]
[/ul]
We believe every child deserves a new beginning and a chance to succeed.

The Facts facing Foster and Homeless Children

In total more than 30,000 young adults aged out of foster care each year.  There are 800 in Florida alone.  With more children entering the system every day, this number will rise.  Each day we do not reform our foster care system, we fail more young people who exit the system completely on their own.  When someone exits the foster care system, they go from having a lot state support to essentially having none.  So, what happens to these young adults we took into foster care to protect after they exit the system?

Unfortunately statistics prove:
[ul]
[li]38% have a mental illness[/li]
[li]62% are unemployed[/li]
[li]60% become parents within 3 years[/li]
[li]50% use illegal drugs/alcohol[/li]
[li]81% have been arrested or incarcerated[/li]
[li]33% are homeless[/li]
[li]50% do not have a high school diploma or GED[/li]
[li]90% feel let down by the system[/li]
[/ul]
* These figures do not add up because many of the individuals are unfortunately in more than one category.

Conclusion - Donate or Volunteer to Local Charity or Non-Profit Organization

This is during a healthy economy.  However, the recession has made the challenges of life after foster care even more formidable, especially for those seeking federal housing vouchers, which are contingent on having an income.  Young adults 18-23 are one of the fastest growing segments of Florida’s homeless population.  This is proof the system is not working and there needs to be a transitional period for these youths.  After all, the youth of the nation is also the FUTURE of our nation!

The Shiloh Ranch vision and the tremendous benefits for our children and communities only realized by volunteers and charitable donations.
