'Demonstration Effect' in Emerging Markets; Encouraging Effects of Private Equity

'Demonstration Effect' is the third segment of Privcap's series about the impact of private equity on emerging markets featuring Sachin Date, Ernst & Young; Roger Leeds, Johns Hopkins University; and Jeffrey Leonard, EMPEA

Feb. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Private equity markets in emerging economies grow due to good stories and good data – all part of a “demonstration effect” that encourages regulators, business owners and local investing institutions to support this essential asset class.

In the third segment of Privcap’s groundbreaking series about the impact of private equity on emerging markets, Sachin Date, Private Equity Leader for Europe, Middle East, India, and Africa for Ernst & Young, Roger Leeds, Professor and Director of the Center for International Business and Public Policy at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and Jeffrey Leonard, President and CEO of the Global Environmental Fund, discuss the evidence of private equity’s beneficial effects on development. The first two programs in this series are '“Development Equity” and “Fostering Private Capital.”

Topics discussed include a good story from Brazil, the encouraging effects of private equity on Indian infrastructure, private equity’s “abysmal” data-collection to date, and the critical role that private equity has in transforming businesses where state ownership and public markets will not suffice.
