By: Linfield College Her research shows that a better partner brings out your better self. Men who are more mature see their partner through a rosier lens. They believe their partner cares about them and will hang in there for better or for worse. And men who trust their partner are more likely to become more conscientious. That is, they might pick up the towel off the bathroom floor or bring flowers on Valentine’s Day. “Men who are withdrawn, depressed or irritable have a growing perception that their mates don’t understand or care about them,” Weisberg said. If your significant other is a volatile sort, you’re more likely to end up with an argument than a box of candy on Feb. 14. “The image men have of their partners is tied to their own personality, but women’s perception of their partners is more dependent on actual traits,” said the Linfield College professor. “If their man scores high in compassion, open mindedness and intellect, women perceive them as more responsive. “Our engagement in romantic relationships is a major life event, but the effect of those relationships on personalities isn’t yet well understood,” # # # Linfield illuminates the power of a small college, and is recognized for arts, sciences and professional programs, international emphasis and commitment to social responsibility.
