Sheffield Attempts To Flip Its Way Into The Guinness World Records Book ™

Feb. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- The attempt, nicknamed The Big Flip, aims to break the record for the most people flipping pancakes.

Sheffield residents that are registered to take part in the attempt will gather together next Wednesday 15 February (during half-term week) from midday in The Endcliffe Village, the University’s flagship student accommodation complex in Broomhill. The record attempt will take place at 1.30 pm.

An impressive 1,200 people have officially signed up to take part in the attempt and join in the pancake related fun.

The current record stands at 405 people tossing a pancake and the department of Accommodation and Commercial Services (ACS) at the University hopes to smash this.

David McKown, Project Manager for the Guinness World Record™ attempt said: “We’re really excited about The Big Flip and are delighted that so many people have signed up to take part. It’s going to be a fun day out for all the family, with a pancake race, a pancake eating competition and lots of other activities to keep everyone entertained.”

There’ll be free soup, free pancakes and a free bottle of Lyle's Golden Syrup for everyone who takes part, as well as a souvenir brochure and certificate for all participants.

Sheffield resident and BBC Football Focus presenter, Dan Walker will be there to kick off The Big Flip along with the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Keith Burnett and a number of special guests.

Students from RAG (Raising and Giving) will also be at The Big Flip collecting donations for three local charities – ACCT: Asperger’s Children and Carer’s Together, Project Buzz and Paces Sheffield. The frying pans used in the attempt will be donated to local homeless charity, St. Vincent’s.
