Feb. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Iconic singer/songwriter Midge Ure has become the latest high profile player to be charmed by the Vintage® guitar brand's no-nonsense tones and playability.

The Scottish-born musician, probably best known for his time as frontman of Ultravox and his involvement with the Band Aid single Do They Know it's Christmas?, which he co-wrote and produced, recently discovered the Vintage brand while on a visit to London.

"I was in Oxford Street and found myself with half an hour to spare," says Midge, "so I went into Ivor Mairants Musicentre and tried out a Vintage V100MRPGM Lemon Drop guitar, as I'd heard a few good reports about it. Bloody hell, it's great!"

During his career, Midge has worked with Slik, The Rich Kids, Visage and Thin Lizzy (as a replacement for the mid-tour departure of Gary Moore, and co-writing the song Get Out Of Here and Phil Lynott's biggest solo hit, Yellow Pearl). Since the late eighties, he has also enjoyed a successful solo career, achieving a Number One hit single with the song If I Was from his album The Gift.

In addition to the Lemon Drop (RRP £429), Midge has also taken delivery of a Vintage V100GT Goldtop (RRP £339), as he loves the tone of the Trev Wilkinson-designed W90 pickups. Midge used the eye-catching guitar at the Prince's Trust charity concert late last year, sharing the prestigious Royal Albert Hall stage with the likes of Chris de Burgh, Nik Kershaw, Mark King, Julian Lennon, Cerys Matthews, Alison Moyet and Joss Stone.

Midge is very involved with charity work, having received the OBE for his services to music and charity. He is a regular participant in Prince's Trust concerts and is also an ambassador for the Save The Children fund, visiting both Ethiopia and Sierra Leone in this capacity. Midge was also instrumental in organising the monumental Live 8 concerts in 2005.

Midge continues to perform live, both as a solo musician and with the reformed Ultravox, and has also purchased a Vintage Gordon Giltrap signature model (VE2000GG, RRP £499) for some of his acoustic work.
