NEWBURY PARK, CALIF.--Two after school programs for kids in first through eighth grades are now being offered at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).
The "Healthy Me" program is for kids in first through fifth grades. Children spend after school time, Monday through Thursdays, at the Y, participating in a structured homework hour and practicing habits needed to live a healthy life. Kids cook healthy snacks, take part in exercise programs and learn leadership skills. Enrichment time includes science, music and dance as well as a mentoring program where they learn from Y staff about their jobs.
The "Y-Achievers"
"These programs give children a well-rounded, positive experience. They can often complete their homework by the end of the homework session so they can go home and spend quality time with their family," says Julie McConville, Miller Y youth development director. "The programs add to the children's school day in ways that will benefit them for years to come."
The fee for each program is $70 per month. Healthy daily snacks are included. For more information, contact Julie McConville at 805-480-0309, jmcconville@
