“As such we, her fellow surf bloggers and online friends, came together to try to raise the money so she can continue being a surfer and roll model to her young boy,” said Josh Aggars.
According to Josh, the disparate online surf community from all over the world, have come together to raise over $4,000 for the uninsured surfer and surf blogger Surf Sista.
“In the first 48 hours of the fund appeal launch, we had raised $2,000 and counting from small donations the world over. Most of the people donating, including myself, have never met her in person but through her writing and good nature, everyone has pulled together to help out,” noted Josh.
The appeal fund was launched on Saturday January 21, 2012, and remains open until the surfers have accumulated enough to cover the costs of the operation for Surf Sista. Donations can be made through the fund appeal the group has set up http://www.surfmeisters.com/
In this show of unity the world community of surfers have come together to help one of their own in her hour of need. “We would love everyone to spread the word about this fund appeal so that we can, in a short time raise the full amount needed so we can get Surf Sista back on her feet and surfing,” said Josh, who claimed Surf Sista is a beautiful and caring person, as well as, being a talented athlete.
“The idea that she should have to give up her passion because she can’t get a simple operation paid for is too much. It has been amazing to see the way people have responded so far. It’s a feel good story that everyone should want to get involved in at this time of constant bad economic gloom,” added Josh.
According to Josh, he woke up on Saturday morning and just thought “this is nuts, there’s got to be something we can do to help Surf Sista out.” “So, I set up an appeal page and kicked it off with a small donation and then posted it up on Facebook and on my blog to let people know about the appeal,” he recalled.
He initially set the appeal limit at $500, just out of curiosity to see if he could help raise that small amount … anything to help ease the distress Surfer Sista finds herself in. Well, within 48 hours, Josh was pleasantly surprised when the amount shot past $2,000 mark… and all from surfers the world over who only know Surf Sista through her surf blog.
Now Josh wants to go the whole way and show the world that the surf community cares for its own and won’t let one of their true unsung heroes lose her ability to surf without a fight. “She never asked for anyone to take action as that is not her nature, so it came as a complete surprise to find the online surf community had acted and she said she spent all day Sunday crying tears of joy at the action,” said Josh.
“That in itself is reward enough – knowing we’ve turned someone’s ultimate stress around by showing collective compassion. In fact it’s my new mission, to make people I’ve never met cry tears of joy because it feels darn good to have helped make a difference,”
All donations go straight to Surf Sista’s PayPal account. You can read her blog posts at http://www.surfmeisters.com/
