                                                Black History Celebration
                                                In Honor of Don Cornelius

As we think about Black History Month it takes us to a place of nostalgic memories, Mavin Gay tunes, and war stories and civil rights movements. In the 21st century African Americans can reach back in history and remember how music, food and dance made a huge impact on balancing the daily life of a once oppressed group. On Saturday February 11, 2012 from (10p-2a,) there will be an honored celebration for Black History Month. The celebration is paying homage to Chicago’s very own late great Don Cornelius, Soul Train’s founder producer and legend.

The most fundamental music genre, with so many variations is the Chicago House Music Culture. The acronym H.O.U.S.E meaning is Hearing Ordinary Unique Sounds Every day. House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the American city of Chicago, Illinois in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized in mid-1980s discothèques catering to African-Americans and Latino Americans in Chicago circa 1984, then in other locations such as New York City, New Jersey, Toronto, Montreal, London, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami.

It then reached and began to influence popular music in Europe, with chart hits such as House Nation by House Master Boyz and the Rude Boy Of House (1987) and Doctorin' The House by Coldcut (1988). Since the early to mid-1990s, house music has been infused in mainstream pop and dance music worldwide.

ChiFa EliTe, MK inc and Assylem Radio on Saturday February 11, 2012 will host an event celebrating black history month, in honor of Don Cornelius, Chicago’s House Culture and Soul Train show. Each 2nd saturday of the month, the trio produce high end themed events to support culture & community. Saturday will be an epic night of remembrance of Don C. for his legendary contribution of birthing Soul Train which opened the door for dance & house music worldwide. Soul Sounds provided by: Rahaan, Sadar Bahar, Marc Davis, Teddron (DJ Service) Mapp.

This chic event will take place at premier destination Le Fleur De Lis Chicago (home of the gumbo) Creole Cuisine located 301 E. 43rd Street, in the heart of historic Bronzeville. Attendees can enjoy good eats, as they enjoy a night of cocktailing and connecting.

“We’ve come this far by faith, in effort to pay tribute and homage to those that paved the way such as the Don C’s and a long list of others, it’s our job and responsibility to make sure their legacy, sacrifice and name stay alive.” statesCrystal R. Jones, Founder of ChiFa EliTe.
