PRLog - Feb. 9, 2012 - Clearwater, FL - Narconon  Alcohol Rehab Centers in the East US is releasing a free booklet to families and children of alcoholic parents titled “The Truth About Becoming Addicted – How Good People Lose Control” in honor of Children of Alcoholics week, February 12 to 18, 2012.

The National Association of Children of Alcoholic Parents (NACoA) believes that no child of an alcoholic should grow up in isolation and without support.  Narconon Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centers in the East US share this belief and are doing something about it.

“Life in a family with a non-recovering alcoholic parent can contribute to stress for all the members of the family. The resiliency and steadfast desire for help of the non-alcoholic spouse or other sober family member is a key factor in limiting the effects of the problems impacting children of alcoholics. These are the people who make family interventions happen and ultimately save children’s’ lives,” says Yvonne M. Rodgers, Executive Director of Narconon (http://www.narcononeastus.org) East US.

“To help the children and families better understand what is happening with the alcoholic, we are offering the new free booklet. It includes a toll-free, confidential phone number where family members can call for more assistance.   Ideally, we would like to help the family get the alcoholic parent into a successful long-term rehab program that focuses on needed life skills so the entire family can recover from the effects of alcohol addiction,” says Rodgers.

The statistics surrounding children who face alcoholic parents are numerous.   SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) reports an estimated 25 percent of all children in the United States or 1 in 4 children, are affected by or exposed to a family alcohol problem.

The NACoA reports that there are an estimated 26.8 million children of alcoholic parents in the United States and preliminary research suggests that over 11 million are under the age of 18.

Observations from helping thousands of people recover from addiction have led many counselors at the  Narconon East Us Alcohol and Drug Rehab Center’s to the conclusion that having parents who abuse alcohol or drugs is also  contributing to the rise of teen prescription drug use epidemic use.
Anyone struggling with an alcoholic parent or knows of a child struggling with an alcoholic parent can request a free copy of “The Truth About Becoming Addicted – How Good People Lose Control” by emailing info@narcononeastus.org.  The booklet also contains phone numbers that family and friends can call confidentially for additional information on interventions and successful rehabilitation programs.

The Narconon alcohol and drug rehabilitation program is unique in that it is an entirely drug-free treatment model that maintains an average 76% success rate.  For nearly 50 years, the Narconon substance abuse program has been getting people stably off alcohol and drugs without the use of replacement medications.  It uses specifically designed nutritional support to aid in withdraw and detoxification, combined with a sauna detox program and a proven, comprehensive life skills program to handle both the physical and mental aspects of addiction.  It is classified as a social education model of rehabilitation, where addicts become “students” of the Narconon life skills curriculum, overcome their addictions and learn to live productive drug- free lives. There is follow-up with graduates but no Narconon meetings (http://www.narcononrehab.com).

Narconon East US (http://www.narcononeastus.org/narconon-program.html) helps existing Narconon Centers in the East US, as well as establishing new Substance Abuse Facilities and Drug Prevention Education centers. The Narconon drug rehabilitation and education program was founded in 1966 by William Benitez and uses the drug-free rehabilitation and social education methodology based on research developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. Narconon is dedicated to eliminating drug abuse and drug addiction through drug prevention, education and rehabilitation. The Narconon drug rehabilitation program routinely results in drug-free lives, with the majority of graduates going on to live stable, productive, drug-free lives.
