Many of us can recall the excitement that piñatas brought to us as children. A bunch of friends at a birthday party, all taking turns putting on a blindfold and having a go at a flamboyant animal with a stick or baseball bat. When the piñata exploded, there was always a mad dash for all of the candy and treats that came flying out, followed by smiles and laughter.
Ventura residents Matt and Nicole White are some the creators that bring us all that delight. For them, the real sweetness comes with the construction of piñatas rather than the flurried destruction. Their unique customized piñatas are always creative and original and are sure to brighten your day.
Matt and Nicole founded the company Fiesta Piñata in May, and are already experiencing some incredible success. In just three months, they have had customers the likes of BMW, Chrysler, New Balance, MTV, and Disney as well as personal orders from all around the world. They started their company with the idea of combining their personal expertise to go beyond the mundane piñata. Sure, you can order a star or a donkey from them. But wouldn’t you rather order a sports car, or a Rasta frog, or an Osama Bin Laden with dynamite strapped to his chest? A case doesn’t even need to be made for the ladder three.
Matt has a lot of experience with computer programs and graphic design. Not only has he created an incredible website for Fiesta Piñata, but his use of templates and three-dimensional software allow the pair to make piñatas more quickly and effectively. “Overall, creating piñatas may not seem all that interesting to the everyday individual, but with all of the advancements in 3D design software and manufacturing techniques, I just can’t wait to see the piñatas of the future, more realistic, more accurate character portrayals with unlimited customization possibilities. That’s what’s really exciting to me,” said Matt.
White has incredible artistic skills and uses her talents to create some of the most interesting piñatas. With a steady hand and an unwavering imagination, she carefully crafts piñatas of all shapes and sizes, ranging from basic to extremely complex. There is seemingly no design she cannot perform, and is pleased to craft a wide variety of ideas. “From the time someone comes to us with a piñata idea, to the much more rewarding part of hearing back about their memorable experiences, it’s hard not to enjoy what I do,” said Nicole.
The piñata business can be a demanding one, requiring long hours and maximum effort to ensure success. Matt and Nicole enjoy the chaos, however, recognizing the benefits of variety and setting their own hours. They continue to develop and grow their business, with much going on over the course of the next few months. They have two large orders placed for 100 and 4,500 piñatas, respectively. Also, they are getting ready to release a new online customizing option in which one can submit a photograph and receive a piñata of his or herself. They experimented with this function when they made one of their most famous piñatas, a custom one of rocker Sammy Hagar for his birthday party. It will be interesting to see how their business will excel from this point forward.
