Feb. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Las Vegas —Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) hosts The Strip Gets Lit Up, its annual after-dark ski and snowboard competition and party on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. The party starts at sundown and the competition, open to male and female athletes of all ages, begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration for the competition is $50 and will be available online at www.skilasvegas.com and at LVSSR on event day from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. There is no charge for entry to the party.

The only event that’s held after dark, organizers anticipate that this will be LVSSR’s largest event of the season. Last year’s event drew a number of competitors and spectators from neighboring states like Arizona, Utah and California.

“One night a year we combine the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas with the unique culture of snow sports and the result is an amazing party. This is a very unique ski and snowboard competition,” says John Morelli, the director of business development at LVSSR.

Athletes compete in gender and age categories. Judging will be determined based on landing, difficulty and style with special prizes awarded to the top athletes in each category. All registered competitors are entered to win thousands of dollars in raffle prizes.

There is a one-hour of practice session for athletes from 4:30-5:30 p.m. A lift ticket is not required to compete in the event, but those wishing to ski or snowboard prior to the event must present a lift ticket or season pass.

Competitors and spectators are encouraged to celebrate on the deck of the base lodge before, during and after the competition with music provided by a live DJ, food and beverages sponsored by Monster Energy.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will help provide ski helmets for local youth during Lids on Kids, the national safety education program hosted by LVSSR every January. To date, LVSSR has distributed 1,023 free ski and snowboard helmets to Las Vegas youth since 2006.

“Our goal is to provide meaningful events to actively engage our community,” says Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s president and general manager. “Whether it’s an after-dark competition and party to celebrate our love of the sport, or a charity event to ensure every child on our slopes is safe, we aim to be a positive contributor to the Las Vegas culture.”
