Feb. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Community leaders and Scout supporters will gather Thursday, February 9 to hear Scoutmasters of the Boy Scouts of America share stories of inspiration, achievement, and overcoming great obstacles. The event will be held at the Inn of the Hills Resort & Conference Center with the breakfast buffet beginning at 6:45 AM and the program at 7:00 AM.

“The event will feature an inspirational story of how one Scout became a true hero when he helped 11 children involved in a school bus accident,” said Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive of the Alamo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Another Scoutmaster will share how the troubled youth in his residential program benefit from Scouting.

A local Eagle Scout, Justin Copisarow of Troop 1, will also be recognized for receiving the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award from the Alamo Area Council, BSA. The National Eagle Scout Association has established the award to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by a Scout to a religious institution, school, community, or other entity. The award recognizes the Scout for his Eagle Scout leadership service project, which is part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Award. Each local council chooses a council-level winner and this Kerrville teen was the 2011 recipient.

As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Alamo Area Council, it is amazing that the traditional values of Scouting continue to be reflected in today’s youth members,” de los Santos said. “We hope the community will remember the day and be guided by these examples of leadership and commitment.”

The annual event, chaired by former City Councilman Bruce Motheral of Motheral Industries, Inc., helps support Scouting programs in the Texas Hills District and council wide.
