More than $15k Collected for Hungry Children in Southwest Florida via Girls Night Out Event

Feb. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- The 3rd Annual Girls Night Out committee is proud to announce they collected more than $15,000 for Blessings in a Backpack via their recent event! Held at Fort Myers Harley-Davidson last Friday, an estimated 220 people attended the event.

Looking to raise at least $12,000, what they collected last year, their fundraising goal was exceeded. The group collected a total of $15,408, securing food for 192 children in Lee County for entire year!

“We are so thankful and excited by the outcome of the event,” commented Peri Bluemer, Chair of the event. “Feeding the less fortunate children of our community is important to their future and ours. We’re honored to be able to play a role and appreciate everyone’s support.”

Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization designed to feed elementary school children who qualify for the federal free and reduced meal program and may not have any or enough food on the weekends. $80 feeds a child for an entire school year. 100 percent of the proceeds will directly benefit the local effort currently focused at four elementary schools in Lee County.
