HSE forum in Qatar expands exhibition space to accommodate more exhibitors

A sold out exhibition in 2011 and an upswing in the market pushed organisers to expand the exhibition floor in response to requests received

Feb. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- 07 February 2012: The HSE Forum in Energy, themed Refining the Vision: Turning Commitment into Reality, will hold its 8th annual edition in Qatar from 8-10 October 2012 under the patronage of His Excellence Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry, Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum.

A year-on-year growth for the event reflects the region's increasing commitment towards the enforcement of its health, safety and environment (HSE) regulations to protect its workers, and the community at large.

The HSE sector in the oil & gas industry is experiencing major developments, advances and upgrades region wide, specifically in Qatar as the world’s eyes turn to this small but influential country. The government has strengthened regulations for the health and safety of its workforce and reflection of it can be seen with the establishment of the National Committee of Occupational Health and Safety at the Ministry of Labour in 2011.  Also in the same year, the Health, Safety, and Environment Regulatory and Enforcement Directorate issued a memorandum providing a brief to industry stakeholders of the Directorate's approach in establishing HSE risk regulating guidelines.  The HSE Legal Framework in the Oil & Gas Sector was issued as part of its HSE legislation assessment exercise.

Zenab Husain, Project Director from Fleming Gulf Conferences which is organising the event, believes that the government's initiatives towards regulating HSE practices in the energy sector will set a high standard for the region.

Husain explains further, "In view of massive development plans in the region, HSE and sustainable business development is gaining high priority thereby widening the market scope for potential suppliers of services, equipments and technologies.  Take the energy sector for instance, an increasing number of organisations have hired contractors or consultants and have added new equipments to manage and control hazards that come with the deployment of energy technologies."

"For this reason, we have decided to increase the exhibition floor to give more companies the opportunity to showcase their offerings directly to the market.  The event is primarily led by its conference. However, the supporting exhibition is equally gaining recognition due to a much targeted market that the forum attracts," Husain adds.

As early as now, the show has confirmed sponsors and exhibitors, participating for the second year, such as Chemsafe, Industrial Scientific Corporation and Petrotechnics to mention a few.

Gold sponsor to the event, Chemsafe, is one of the leading European companies providing support and consultancy to chemical and petrochemical companies concerning the hazard classification of chemicals as well as occupational and environmental risks. Complementary support is offered to companies for industrial plant safety and risk assessment.  Chemsafe looks to further explore opportunities in the Middle East by offering services in the field of chemical substance and plant safety.  Dr. Antonio Conto, managing director for Chemsafe, speaks about how sponsoring in 2011 has helped achieve their business goals, "The event has helped our organisation in making first contacts and meeting potential relevant customers. It gave us the opportunity to present our services, and at the same time it was a learning experience for us which is a key point for our business."

"I look forward to engaging with the participants at the forum again.  Talking to our customers gives us the opportunity to offer support that is tailored according to their specific needs.  Each chemical company may have peculiar safety situation that needs to be focused by us and appropriately faced in order to find the most suitable solution. Participants can expect that we have solutions to offer that can help, especially in the field of safety in chemical export to Europe and of their plants including HSE, fire protection and industrial risk assessment at their plants," Dr. Antonio adds.

Industrial Scientific is supporting the event as a gold sponsor this year. Industrial Scientific is the global leader in designing, manufacturing, selling and servicing gas monitoring instruments, systems and related products.  Marketing communications specialist for the company, Emilie Ravet, describes their experience as exhibitors during the previous year, "The HSE exhibition in Qatar in October 2011 was well organized and focused on safety topics that fit our company vision and mission statements. In addition, there were several key HSE safety professionals in attendance from many end users in Qatar and GCC countries. We believe the exhibition helped to increase our brand recognition with key end users and customers of Industrial Scientific in Qatar."

This year, participants will learn about the recently launched Accenture Life Safety Solution, an innovative, wireless safety solution offered through collaboration between Accenture, AeroScout, Cisco and Industrial Scientific. The Ventis™ LS multi-gas detector, from Industrial Scientific, is a key component of this wireless, real-time solution. Emilie adds, "We are honored to participate again in the 8th Annual HSE Forum in Energy and look forward to meeting with both current and future partners, ensuring they have the best solutions to manage their gas detection program."

The 8th edition of the HSE Forum in Energy has evolved to be one of the key annual meeting points in Qatar for the energy sector's HSE executives from the Middle East and beyond.  In 2011, the event gathered over 400 HSE executives from the energy sector representing the Middle East, Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and Africa.  Some of the attendees include Qatar Shell Service Company, Dolphin Energy, Qatargas, Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations, ADNOC, Total Petrochemicals and Saudi Aramco to name a few.
