By: Miriam Schaffer Metabolic syndrome affects 10 percent of people in their 20s and 40 percent of people in their 60s. According to The Mayo Clinic, metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions such as excess weight around the waist, abnormal cholesterol levels, and high blood sugar levels. To reduce the risks of metabolic balance, a program of weight loss, exercise, smoking cessation, and diet change is implemented that is tailored to each individual. “While there are many programs that work to reduce weight by reducing caloric intake, Metabolic Balance has a different approach,” says Nissen. “Metabolic Balance uses a program tailored to each person’s metabolism and does not require medications, drugs or injections. Those on the program eat three nutritious meals with food selected from a food list developed for their specific needs.” A recent study published in The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism revealed that a systematic change in diet in accordance with the Metabolic Balance® system clearly improves the symptoms of metabolic syndrome (excess weight, diabetes, hypertension and lipid metabolism disorders). Of the clients suffering from metabolic syndrome at the start of the program, 76% no longer met the criteria for this diagnosis after one year. Nissen will offer free Metabolic Syndrome screenings as well as information on Metabolic Balance’s signs and health risks at the Leap into Health-Leap Year Health Fair at the Vitamin Shoppe, 1601 Mt. Diablo Blvd. Walnut Creek, California on Saturday, February 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. No appointment is needed. # # # ABOUT MYRA NISSEN, CCH, RSHom(NA) Myra Nissen, CCH, RSHom(NA) is a board certified homeopath and a certificated Metabolic Balance® coach with a practice in Walnut Creek and Benicia, California.
