New Report Finds Gap in Housing Affordability and Quality in Hamilton County

The Affordable Housing Advocates releases its 2011 Housing Report for Greater Cincinnati and hosts an event on February 23rd to launch a public awareness and education campaign designed to expose myths about affordable housing.

Feb. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- Cincinnati, Ohio – The Affordable Housing Advocates (AHA) releases its 2011 Housing Report for Greater Cincinnati and it is available for immediate download: http://www.ahacincy.org.  The report includes key findings and analysis based on 2010 Census data and defines “what affordable housing means” to those living in the Greater Cincinnati region.

“The reason AHA does this report is to continue to educate members of our community about the need and importance of having safe, quality affordable housing throughout Hamilton County. It provides updated information on substandard housing, homelessness, accessibility, and residential segregation,” says AHA member, Alicia Townsend, Community Lender, Cincinnati Development Fund.

AHA will present the 2011 Housing Report and invite the community-at-large to engage in an open dialogue about the report’s key findings on Thursday, February 23, 4 pm, at The United Way building, 2400 Reading Road.

“The foreclosure problem and its impact on families and neighborhoods, shows that good affordable housing remains a pressing need.  Good quality and affordable rental housing is a necessary part of the solution. And good use of government housing programs will benefit lower income families, senior citizens and the entire community,” says, John E. Schrider, Jr., Director, Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio.

The Affordable Housing Advocates is a group of housing providers, advocates, and civic groups dedicated to “Opening Doors” to ensuring good, safe, accessible, affordable housing for all people in the Greater Cincinnati area.  Thanks to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and PNC Foundation, during the February 23rd event, AHA will unveil a public education and awareness campaign designed to engage the faith based community and ‘trendsetters’ with the aim of exposing the myths about affordable housing.  AHA invites you to share what you know to be true about affordable housing.  Can your story shed a light on an affordable housing myth?  All are welcome to share and learn more.
