January developer skills index shows mobile development gaining importance

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 7, 2012 - The Jobs Tractor language index is a monthly index of programming languages based on what skills are being requested by companies looking to hire developers on twitter. January saw a near doubling of jobs compared to December as companies kicked the new year off with something of a hiring spree.

Web development with Java and PHP continues to dominate at the top of the table with over 1332 and 1303 jobs recorded in January 2012 respectively. Objective-C and Android skills are moving up the table recently though and it could be one of them in the number two spot some time this year. Objective-C kept it's top 3 billing in January with nearly 900 roles advertised. Jobs requesting Android skills moved into 4th place and  managed to put more distance between themselves and 4th place SQL and 5th place Ruby. The question for 2012 could well be: will Android or Objective-C development take the number 2 position first?
