Athletes with Diabetes Supported by Primal Wear. Official partnership with TeamWILD Announced!

Primal Wear, Inc took it’s support of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to new levels several years ago when they began designing and producing the first Red Rider jerseys for the Tour de Cure cycling event of the American Diabetes Association. Mari Ruddy, founder of the Red Rider program, a recognition program for people with diabetes who ride their bikes in the Tour de Cure, introduced Primal Wear to the Tour de Cure in Colorado.

“I had a gorgeous jersey designed by Primal Wear that I bought because it was so pretty. Once I wore it on my training rides, I discovered it’s technical performance matched its beauty, and I knew I wanted Primal to produce the official jersey for the Red Riders” – said Mari Ruddy in a recent statement about why she chose Primal.

After establishing the initial partnership with the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure Colorado in 2007, Primal Wear has gone on to produce all of the Red Rider jerseys nationwide. In 2011, there were over 5,200 Red Riders in over 91 Tours in over 40 states. Primal Wear now also designs and produces all the Tour de Cure cycling gear for the American Diabetes Association.  

With the success of the Red Rider program, Mari Ruddy went on to create TeamWILD: We Inspire Life with Diabetes, an integrated training system designed to prepare athletes with diabetes to complete or compete in athletic events. TeamWILD fills a huge gap in the services and education available to people who want to get fit using endurance athletics and have diabetes.

TeamWILD’s mission is to inspire people with diabetes to be an athlete first and a person with diabetes second. TeamWILD has programs for beginning walkers to advanced 100 mile cyclists and half-Iroman triathletes. TeamWILD serves anyone with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, who has a desire to take charge of their health through exercise.

Mari approached Primal Wear with the idea to create the TeamWILD uniforms, as she knew Primal Wear would deliver a superior product that would serve the TeamWILD athletes. Primal Wear had proven the superiority of their product with the successful creation and delivery of the Red Riders jersey year after year. Primal Wear immediately got behind what Mari was doing with TeamWILD, and the birth of another community serving partnership began.

All athletes who purchase a 14, 16 or 18 week integrated training program from TeamWILD will receive a PrimalWear designed and produced TeamWILD cycling jersey, triathlon top or run top, depending on the sport training program they select.

PrimalWear, TeamWILD, Tour de Cure Colorado, and partners Zevia and Bicycle Village will host a KickOff/Launch Party on March 2, 2012. The general public is invited to come to the party using one of the three methods to attend: 1. Register to ride in the Tour de Cure Colorado, 2. Purchase a TeamWILD training program or 3. Purchase a $26 ticket to the party on the TeamWILD website in the Store! It's going to be an amazing evening!
