BIG ARTS Winter Academy Upcoming Classes

BIG ARTS Winter Academy offers courses in international law, music history, literature, music and art appreciation, religion, economics, and creative thinking.

Feb. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- BIG ARTS Winter Academy series has announced the addition of a new class: Economic Policy and the 2012 Elections. Winter Academy offers courses in international law, music history, literature, music and art appreciation, religion, and creative thinking.

Dr. Lawrence S. Davidson returns a third time to BIG ARTS by popular demand. His 2012 course, Economic Policy and the 2012 Elections, will focus on macroeconomic issues and policies and their relationship to the U.S. elections in November. Wednesday, February 8, he will focus on domestic issues of monetary and fiscal policy. The class meets again Wednesday, February 15, to examine international trends and policies (EU debt crisis, free trade agreements, China, the WTO, etc.) and their importance to the upcoming 2012 elections. Both classes are from 1 to 4 p.m.

Davidson is Professor Emeritus of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Davidson taught at Kelley in Bloomington for 34 years and now roams around the globe teaching anyone who wants to listen.

Upcoming Winter Academy classes are: The History of Music in the Holocaust taught by Tom Lewy, a music historian who holds a Master's Degree in Opera from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Class meets Tuesdays, February 14 to 21, 9 a.m. to noon.
Two classes taught by Deborah Butler; Looking at ART and The Changing Story of Art. Butler is a former professor of art history at Edison State College who will examine the ways in which we interpret art. Looking at ART meets Wednesdays, February 15 to March 7, 9 a.m. to noon. The Changing Story of Art meets Wednesdays, March 21 to April 11, 9 a.m. to noon.  

History of Jazz: The Early Days with Jack Bailey. Bailey is a former New York Times executive who teaches jazz history at the Chautauqua Institute. Meets Fridays, March 2 to 16, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Narrative Moment: Story Telling in Literature and Art with Anne-Marie Bouché. Bouché is an Associate Professor of Art History at Florida Gulf Coast University who holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University. Class meets Fridays, March 2 to 23, 9 a.m. to noon.

Thinking Creatively with Doug MacGregor. MacGregor is an editorial cartoonist whose work is published regularly in the The News-Press and has appeared also in USA Today. Meets Tuesdays, March 6 to 27, 9 a.m. to noon.
