Dyslexia Challenge: A National Model for Dyslexic Instruction

Special Employment Services, 501(c) 3, and Kenney College partner to test the Perceptual Noise Exclusion Hypothesis. Findings could transform dyslexia education globally. Philanthropist partner sought to support scientific research study.

Feb. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- It is estimated that 10% of the U.S. population suffer from dyslexia. However, there is currently no scalable model in place to guide workforce developers or college faculty in the instruction of dyslexic workers or students. Educators and employers are not accommodating the needs of dyslexics through innovative and customized course design or training. Specifically, they have not integrated recent and very promising findings of neuroscience researchers into course design or instruction.

Neuroscientists have shown that dyslexics can read at the same level as non-dyslexics when specific steps are taken to meet their needs. This study will be the first attempt to test the Perceptual Noise Exclusion Hypothesis in an educational setting. Innovative instructional techniques will be implemented and findings will shared with educators and workforce developers globally.

The findings of this study could affect how educators and employers train dyslexic workers, and hopefully open the doors to a college education to many learning disabled students. The assistance of a philanthropist is needed to provide financial support for this non-profit research project. Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Dr. Matthew G. Kenney.
