Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Every year February 4 marks World Cancer Day.  Led by the Union for International Cancer Control, a global consortium of more than 470 cancer fighting organizations from over 120 countries, this day is set aside to raise awareness and encourage cancer’s prevention, detection and treatment.
World Cancer Day targets the public through global communications marking, and encourages policy makers and UICC member organizations to make cancer a political priority.
As her part in World Cancer Day, Elaine Savard a papillary thyroid cancer survivor, would like to make you aware of the signs and symptoms of thyroid cancer.  Although there are no specific symptoms of this cancer, a lump on the neck, or swollen lymph nodes for no apparent reason may be a sign.  Other signs are a change or hoarseness in voice, difficulty swallowing or breathing and pain in the neck.
There are four types of thyroid cancer, papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic.  Papillary is the most common.
With the fastest rising cases, thyroid cancer can strike anyone, any age.  It is diagnosed in women more than men with a ratio of 3 to 1.
On Savard’s website, http://www.papillarythyroidcancerguide.com , she provides information about how thyroid cancer is diagnosed, the treatment and life after a thyroidectomy.  She provides a neck check guide.
Because early detection of thyroid cancer can result in a very good prognosis, Savard encourages everyone to become aware of their body.  Routine check-ups and self examinations can catch this cancer along with many others in their early stages.
