As the state’s fiscal advisor, Treasurer Cowell will discuss how her and her staff manage the issuance of debt and help North Carolina cities, towns and counties by monitoring their financial conditions while providing professional technical assistance on audit and financial reporting. In addition, Treasurer Cowell will discuss what it takes to oversee $74 billion in pension fund investments and how it directly affects more than 850,000 public employees. Finally, she will share her strategic initiatives and visions for 2012 and beyond.
Treasurer Cowell is a leader for economic development in North Carolina. Her expertise in government operations stems from hands-on experience as a member of the North Carolina Senate and Raleigh City Council. Similarly, she serves as Chair of the State Banking Commission and on the Board of State Education and Community Colleges.
