Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- These 36 entrepreneurs were given access to discoveries made by our world-leading national laboratories with the goal of creating new products, new industries and new jobs. Umpqua Energy, Inc., from Medford, Oregon, has risen to the challenge. Check out the profiles of the startups and cast your vote by 'liking' the company you think could make the greatest contributions to the country’s economic and energy future. Your 'likes' will help determine which companies are selected to attend the 2012 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit, the premier annual gathering of clean energy investors and innovators around the country.
Utilizing technology from Argonne National Laboratories, Umpqua Energy has created EVOPAC™, an advanced emissions reduction system for internal combustion engines. One negative side effect of a lean burn engine, whether powered by gasoline or diesel fuel, is an increase in the amount of harmful gases released to the environment. EVOPAC™ creates and injects hydrogen into any engine, reducing emissions of HC, CO, PM and NOx between 85 to 100%. A cleaner and more complete burn of the fuel load also results in increased horse power and fuel economy. (Up to 40% more MPG in preliminary testing!) Unlike other systems, EVOPAC™ uses on-board syngas to complete the combustion of the fuel load and the DeNOx Catalyst requires no external liquids, thus eliminating the need for urea tanks and SCR systems. The result is a cleaner, leaner and more powerful engine.
The applications are vast and scalable. Beginning with personal vehicles and diesel fleet trucks, the EVOPAC™  can be used on generators, commercial machinery, marine vessels and even capture and reprocess waste gasses flared from oil wells refineries. The impact in emissions reduction and petroleum consumption could be dramatic, immediate and worldwide.
Automakers have unanimously pledged their support and commitment to meet the EPA’s new standards for fuel efficient vehicles and emissions reductions. Umpqua Energy is positioned to meet those needs, now! Coming into compliance with NOx regulations is as simple as bolting the EVOPAC™  DeNOx Catalyst into the emission stream to break apart the NOx compound into harmless nitrogen. The added benefits of increased fuel economy and power save you money at the pump and make your product more appealing to American consumers.
