Saddle Up for Das Barbecü at Herb Strauss Theater Sanibel ~ Opens February 17

Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Das Barbecü, a new musical comedy making its southwest Florida debut, takes the stage in March at BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Theater, 2200 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Das Barbecü runs Friday, February 17, through Saturday, March 17, Monday through Saturday. There is a special opening night reception at 7 p.m. February 17. All shows begin at 8 p.m., excluding a special matinee performance Wednesday, March 7, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $42 for adults and $20 for children. Tickets are available for purchase online through the BIG ARTS website.
   
You don’t have to love opera to revel in the sheer hilarity and fun of Das Barbecü. This uproarious musical comedy spins Epic Wagnerian as a witty Texas fable using five actors playing more than 30 outrageous characters at breakneck speed. Songs run the gamut from Broadway to Texas Swing and Jazz to Country/Western.
   
Conjure up your basic Texas hootenanny, complete with lassos, long neck beers, fringed leather and steel guitars. Now, marry that image with Wagner’s Ring Cycle, in all its operatic, melodramatic intensity, and you’ve got one splendidly giddy musical.
