New Family Comedy Features Shawn Carter from High School Musical

The movie follows the traditions and antics a Boy Scout troop, the Fire Dragon patrol, experiences during a week at scout camp. Led by their supportive Scout Master, Kerry (Kirby Heyborne, Heaven Is Waiting), the troop heads to prestigious Camp Rakhouta and expects to have the time of their lives. However, when the legendary spirit stick goes missing, the camp’s entire livelihood is threatened. Now, the Fire Dragons, led by York Hayes (Carter), must do whatever it takes to find the stick, return it, and restore the legacy of the camp.

Scout Camp is based in part on first-time feature filmmaker Garrett Batty’s own summers attending scout camp as a child.

“I have chosen to portray the scout camp experience with a feeling of nostalgia and realism,” said Batty, who also produced and wrote the script. “With a deep respect for the traditions of scouting and its principles, I chose to show scouts as they really are, boys learning valuable life lessons.”

Carter and Heyborne were able to use their own experiences as former Eagle Scouts to also add touches of realism.

Calling his movie a labor of love, Batty teamed up with Three Coin Productions to film the story. Though the movie’s humor appeals to many families and preteens, Batty believes the scouting community will benefit most from seeing it.

“For many boys, scout camp is the highlight of their entire summer,” Batty explained. “For the moms and sisters, and sometimes dads, who stayed home, Scout Camp will at last reveal some of the secrets about what really goes on at that annual retreat in the woods.”

Awarded the Family Approved Seal by the Dove Foundation, Scout Camp is now available at gobmg.com for $12.71.
