Technology, Innovation and Engagement at the Heart of #occupy Exhibit at Yellow Peril Gallery

#occupy Exhibit to Integrate Art with Technology Such As Augmented Reality Tattoos, Real-Time Tweets Cast Upon Walls, and Chairs with Voices
By: Yellow Peril Gallery (V Souvannasane)

Feb. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- PROVIDENCE, RI – Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to present ‘#occupy’, a group exhibition featuring artwork inspired by the OCCUPY movement to launch the 2012 Gallery Night season in Providence, RI, on Thursday, 15 March 2012.

#occupy will integrate art with technology such as augmented reality tattoos, real-time tweets cast upon walls, and chairs with voices.

“The artists selected for #occupy were chosen for their daring and innovative contributions to the OCCUPY narrative beyond their respective borders,” notes V Souvannasane, Director, Yellow Peril Gallery.

#occupy includes seven artists with firsthand experience with the OCCUPY movements in Providence, New York City and Salt Lake City:  The Chair People Collective (Sophie Hones, Martha Nichols, Barbara Own and Thangam Ravindranathan), Joey Kilrain, Melissa St. Laurent, Occupy The Light, Phil LeStein, Sandy Parsons and Tom West.

“Our objective with #occupy is two-fold,” Souvannasane explains. “One, we want to engage audiences to reflect on how the world has evolved since ‘The Protester’ was named ‘Person of the Year’ by Time magazine in 2011, and two, we want to champion artwork created by the 99% for the 1% to collect.”

Several of the exhibiting artists are planning programming activities designed to extend the lifecycle of their respective projects during and after #occupy.  Specific events and dates hosted at Yellow Peril Gallery will be communicated before the exhibit’s opening.

#occupy will run at Yellow Peril Gallery from Thursday, 15 March to Sunday, 15 April 2012.  Opening night reception will be on Thursday, 15 March, from 5PM – 9PM during Gallery Night in Providence, RI.
