"I strongly support legislation that would protect our religious liberties which are endowed by our Creator and guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States,” Stenberg said.

Stenberg said that last week’s announcement by the Obama administration that sterilization, abortifacients and contraception must be included in virtually all health plans, is an attack on our religious liberties and cannot stand.
“President Obama is attacking the rights of conscience protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States by requiring Catholic hospitals, universities and schools to provide insurance coverage for birth control, sterilization and abortion drugs,” Stenberg said.
“The President is not only violating the Constitution by requiring health care coverage, but he is now taking the outrageous step of forcing people of faith to choose between violating the law or their own religious faith – this action is unacceptable and cannot stand,” Stenberg said.
“I also praise Lincoln Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in their call to action to overturn the rule,” Stenberg said.
“I am thankful for the leadership of Bishop Bruskewitz and agree with his statement last weekend: ‘this is a serious attack upon our faith, upon our consciences, and upon our cherished freedom of religion’”.
“We must put an end to President Barack Obama's war on religion. The way to do that is to vote him out of office in November. If we value our religious freedom, we must do that,” Stenberg said.
