George Eaves was a consummate collector.  A retired scientist administrator for the National Institutes of Health, he enjoyed his retirement by pursuing his passions for Chinese porcelain and Neoclassical furniture and bronzes.

Entering George’s house was like going on the ‘Grand Tour’ of Europe, as many Americans did in the 19th century.  It was a treasure trove of bronzes made after the Antique combined with Biedermeier and Neoclassical furniture.  As a testament to Mr. Eaves good taste his house was featured in the December 2006 issue of Architectural Digest magazine.

Highlights from the collection include a suite of Biedermeier furniture, a handsome William IV mahogany desk chair with lion’s head handholds, a large collection of English treen, a pair of Chinese Famille Rose Vases, Hung-Hsien and a large collection of Chinese Export porcelain.

Other highlights from the sale include a magnificent sculpture of a female nude by Antonio Frilli (Italian, 1860-1920), a Galle ceramic cat, a beautifully carved pair of Chinese ivory figures and many interesting group lots from local estates.
