Follow on Google News | The Battle Continues: Poets Compete to Represent PhillyJoin The Philadelphia Poetry Slam and 150 poetry fans to welcome nationally acclaimed poet, musician and artist, Pushcart Prize nominee Shira Erlichman to Philadelphia on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 at 8:30pm, at Media Bureau Studios, 725 N. 4th St.
By: The Pigeon Erlichman’s work has been set to motion by the dancers of the Sound Dance Company, appeared in multiple independent films, NPR and national TV. She has shared stages with Ani Difranco, TuNe-YaRds and Coco Rosie. From 7:30 to 8:30pm, Shira Erlichman facilitates a writing workshop that is free for attendees of The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam. At 9 sharp, Erlichman performs original work, headling the monthly Philadelphia Poetry Slam, a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience. “We’re really excited for the third installment of our monthly slam.” says co-founder and ‘08 & ‘09 Philadelphia Slam Poetry Champion Alyesha "Ms." Wise. “The audiences have been vocal and enthusiastic. The style & content of the poets competing in our slam have reflected the diversity and greatness of our city.” “We’ve been honored to have some of the best performance poets in Philadelphia compete in our slam. The team we send to the national performance poetry competition, The Southern Fried Poetry Slam, this June in Tampa, Florida is going to be fierce.” Says co-founder Jacob Winterstein.
