Free Workshop For Parents Of New Drivers

Car crashes continue to be the number one cause of death among teens. To help educate parents of new teen drivers on critical safety issues, Driver Training Services will be hosting a free workshop on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.

Feb. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- (NORTH WALES, PA.) – Teens and parents can often be consumed by the training necessary to get to the point of taking, and passing, the PA driver license exam. But what happens next? New research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reveals that teens are “50% more likely to crash in the first month of having a license than they are after a full year of experience”. Car crashes continue to be the number one cause of death among teens. To help educate parents of new teen drivers on critical safety issues, Driver Training Services will be hosting a free workshop on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.

The workshop, entitled “Now What? Guiding Your Licensed Teen Toward Safe Driving Habits”, will arm parents with information and tools necessary to help them guide their children through the transition from supervised driving to independent driving. New research, including the AAA study, will be discussed in detail, and the presentation will include a Q&A period with professional driving instructors, who will offer recommendations for keeping teens safe behind the wheel.

The timing, just before Valentine’s Day, is no coincidence. “Driving safely, and arriving home alive and well, these are acts of love,” says owner Robert Gillmer. “Safe, defensive driving is an expression of love for self, and love for those in our lives who love us in return.”

The workshop is free and open to the public, and will be held at Driver Training Services, located at 217 East Montgomery Avenue in North Wales, PA. Registration is required, and can be done online by visiting www.drivertrainingservices.com/events or by calling (215) 699-0836.

Driver Training Services will also be teaching the National Safety Council program Alive at 25 on Saturday, February 18. This highly interactive program encourages young drivers between the ages of 16 and 24 to take responsibility for their driving behavior. Skill practices and on-the-spot defensive driving techniques help change bravado to confidence. The fee for this 4-hour course is $45.00.
