Mayors and Firefighters Ice Fishing Challenge - Rescheduled for 2013

Winter conditions across Ontario impede plans for 2012. Towns remain interested in 2013 participation and will benefit from the longer advance period for promotion.

Jan. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The program has been well received and endorsed by many potential stakeholders including Mayors’ offices, municipal and regional tourism organizations and local business associations that see an opportunity to boost town pride and tourism in one package. Firefighters were especially excited about taking part in a competition, not only because of the highly valued Grand Prize.

Concerns received from several groups preparing for this event included: ‘Winter is late in coming. What will the ice be like in February?’  Predicting conditions months in advance has never been reasonably accurate and the unseasonably mild weather this season has been a cause for concern. Safety, public turnout & accessibility and of course availability of good ice to fish on are all factors they are considering.

With an event like the Mayors and Firefighters Ice Fishing Challenge we are depending on locations across Ontario from the north to the south, having good ice fishing conditions. We are seeing first hand that several of the typical ice fishing regions in South and Central Ontario are way below expectations for typical ice build up.

The groups that are registering teams want this to be a first time success as much as we do at CPR Fishing Events. We are committed to delivering to participants the exposure and advertising to the level set out in the original presentation of this program. The objective is always to showcase ice fishing in its best light as a tourism generator.

Some teams were eager to go and will be as disappointed as we are, but after taking all factors into consideration, the decision is to reschedule for Winter 2013.

There will be updates throughout the year as we continue to refine and promote this event. We would like to thank everyone that has offered their encouragement and we look forward to their support in building for next year.
